Bhaja Govindam

Author: ER. GOVINDA CHANDRA SAHU

Hindu religion faced a crisis when Buddhism started influencing the public mind. At such a juncture the great preceptor of Hinduism, Adi Shankaracharya appeared. He was born in 788 AD in village Kaladi of the state of Keral in south India. By birth he was a Brahmin of the Nambrudi sect. Though Acharya Shankar lived for only thirty-two years he has left an immortal legacy. As the English poet Ben Jonson memorably puts it in ‘The Noble Nature’: ‘In small proportions we just beauties see;/ and in shot measures life may perfect be’. Through his Bhaja Govindam Adi Shankar continues to inspires us with eternal wisdom.
